State Chapters and State Sections
Fulfilling Our Mission
Chapters engage in a variety of activities, including:
- Publishing newsletters
- Sponsoring conferences and training seminars
- Evaluating public policy
- Educating members of the media, legislators, and policymakers
- Convening interest groups and task forces
- Cooperating with other organizations that respond to child maltreatment
State Chapters play a crucial role in the fulfillment of APSAC’s mission. Chapters provide an opportunity for the professionals who work in the same state to meet, share ideas and experiences, develop strategies for improving professional services to clients in their state, influence public policy, and educate the public, other professionals, and policy makers about child maltreatment.
Chapters are very important to the national organization. State Chapter coordinators and officers are an important conduit of information between the national staff and Board, and APSAC members at the local and regional level.
APSAC Board and staff look to state chapter coordinators for nominations for Board elections and awards, for suggestions for the direction of the organization (e.g. new task forces, membership benefits, and issues to address), for feedback on ideas emanating from the Board, and for help getting information out to members. Without the energetic activity of State Chapters, APSAC’s work would proceed much more slowly.

State Sections
APSAC is growing its state member network with State Sections!
Three states have already started an APSAC State Section!

If you are in one of these states and are interested in joining the State Section, or if you’d like to take a leadership role in starting a Section or Chapter in another state, email Amber Flick.
Sections are a space for APSAC members to shape the conversation and help lead what comes next.
A State Section is a group where APSAC members in their state meet on a regular basis to discuss issues facing child maltreatment work and professionals in their state.
A State Section can be a stepping stone to starting a State Chapter, which requires establishing a 501(c)(3) non-profit, or it can remain a regular meeting place for members in that state without pursuit of a State Chapter.

APSAC conducts State Chapter Committee meetings monthly on the third Thursday of the month from 12:00-1:00 PM ET. Any State Chapter or state considering chapter formation is welcome to call. Contact Hannah Gilbert to receive the call-in number and password to join these calls.

This document acknowledges the guidelines and how your organization will comply with them. Valid for three years from sign date.
New for 2019-2020: The APSAC Annual Report and Grant Request were merged into a single document. States not requesting grant funds are still required to complete the Annual Report section of the document. This document will be due on January 31 annually. Please note that you must have an active state chapter agreement on file to receive grant funds.
