APSAC Joins Leading Medical Organizations in an amicus brief aimed at protecting child abuse pediatricians from being sued and, in turn, protecting children from maltreatment. APSAC joined the American Academy of Pediatrics, the California Medical Association and the Ray E. Helfer Society in filing an amicus brief in the United States Circuit Court for the 9th Circuit in the case of Jones v. Wang. The case involves important questions of immunity for physicians who evaluate children for possible maltreatment. In the case, Dr. Claudia Wang was sued after she took reasonable and ethical steps in an effort to fully diagnose a child’s injuries after the child appeared in the emergency room with skull fracture and numerous fractured ribs.
