The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children has filed friend of the court briefs in two cases challenging the President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order banning refugees from six predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States. In each case, APSAC supported the action of the federal district court in suspending enforcement of the Executive Order.
In its brief, APSAC pointed out that millions of the refugees involved in the ban are children fleeing war torn, chaotic home countries and that they are carefully screened by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The briefs argue that because of their fragile neurological and psychological development, children are uniquely vulnerable to witnessing and experiencing the violence endemic to these situations.
