A Population-Based Study” (published in Child Maltreatment, Vol. 29), offers critical insight into how neglect is defined and addressed within the child protection system. By leveraging population-level data, this research challenges assumptions, clarifies investigative practices, and deepens our understanding of how CPS involvement varies across families and communities. Nominated by the Child Maltreatment Editorial Board, this award reflects both the rigor of the research and its significant contribution to the field of child maltreatment prevention and response. The authors’ work advances evidence-based policy and practice–ensuring that systems charged with protecting children do so with clarity, consistency, and equity.
