JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – EDITOR: APSAC ADVISOR AND ALERT

The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) seeks an editor for the APSAC Advisor and the APSAC Alert.

The APSAC Advisor is a quarterly news journal for professionals in the field of child abuse and neglect. The publication provides succinct, data-based, practice-oriented articles that keep interdisciplinary professionals informed of the latest developments in policy and practice in the field of child maltreatment.

The Alert is a quarterly digital news blast designed from APSAC. Its purpose is to provide a brief summary of a critical body of empirical research directly informing multidisciplinary child abuse practice, including professionals who work in mental health, social service, health, and the law. The Alert is distributed to a list of over 10,000 child maltreatment/child welfare professionals.

 

MAIN FUNCTIONS OF EDITOR

  • The Editor will solicit, collect, and organize high-quality articles for the Advisor, and recruit summary articles for the Alert. The Editor may also recruit Guest Editors to produce special issues of the Advisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional writing and editing experience; history of publication in peer reviewed journals focusing on child maltreatment
  • Ability to collaborate with members of the APSAC Publications Committee and other sources to set direction, obtain material, communicate expectations, and maintain deadlines
  • Attention to detail, especially in editing (Note – copy editing will be provided)
  • Commitment to the mission of APSAC and to serving its membership
  • High level of organizational skills, ability to multi-task and work within deadlines

EXPECTED ACTIVITY

  • Provide leadership to maintain the Advisor’s scholarly excellence and the Alert’s usefulness for practitioners; inform committee members of any challenges relating to the utility of the content to members
  • Implement Advisor’s strategic mission as established by the APSAC Board of Directors; work with the APSAC Board and management staff to define the nature and scope of both the APSAC Advisor and ensuring they are well integrated into APSAC plans for its continued services to members and the field
  • Work with the APSAC Board and management to use the APSAC Advisor as a primary means to disseminate APSAC recommendations for policy and practice change, and substantive information about APSAC’s work and activities and as an educational and advocacy tool
  • Encourage APSAC Publications Committee members, APSAC members and others with the experience to write/create content for the news journal

COMPENSATION

A minimum 18-month contract with will be negotiated with APSAC .
